Jackie Phillips
July 30, 1942— March 9, 2026
Lewisville, TX
Jackie Phillips was born on July 30, 1942, in Oak Cliff, Texas, to William Wayne and Nellie Faye (Wilson) Whaley of Dallas. The second of their three children, she grew up as the tomboy of the family, spending her days outdoors, joining family camping trips to Possum Kingdom Lake, and playing clarinet in the marching band. She possessed a remarkable talent for writing her name both forward and backward in a single stroke of the pen and took great pride in her Texas heritage, readily sharing stories and knowledge of her family’s history and the area where she was raised.
A graduate of South Oak Cliff High School in 1960, Jackie briefly attended the University of Texas at Dallas before beginning her family. She became the devoted mother of four children and later cherished her role as grandmother and great-grandmother. An accomplished craftswoman, she enjoyed jewelry making, painting, and sewing, and she was known as an excellent cook who loved preparing meals for friends and family. Above all, Jackie lived for her children and grandchildren, rarely missing a football game, baseball match, rodeo, or band performance. She took the deepest pride in watching her kids grow, find love, and build families of their own.
She held a special affection for her family and friends, the Lewisville Fighting Farmers, and her beloved Dallas Cowboys.
Jackie was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Dixie Charlene Whaley McCoy, and her brother James “Butch” Houston Whaley. She is survived by her daughter Ginger Nell Rust and wife Michelle (Clark) Rust of Argyle, sons Robert Douglas Phillips of Hickory Creek, Roy Wayne Phillips and wife Corrie (Morrison) Phillips of Granbury, and Buddy Sean Phillips of Denton; grandchildren Roy Wayne II, Cody James, JanisLynn, Brooklyn Lee, and Caleb William; great-grandchildren Knox Terry, Norah Elise, and Hallie Jean; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
