March 12, 1940 March 7, 2026

Anderson, IN

Jack Lee Tomlinson, 85, of Anderson, Indiana, passed away on March 7, 2026, at Ascension St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis. Born on March 12, 1940, in Anderson to Margaret and James Tomlinson, Jack graduated from Summitville High School in 1959, where he proudly served as the school mascot.

He retired from General Motors after 32 years of service. In retirement, his passion for travel led him to drive charter buses for 13 years and later own and operate his own airport shuttle business. Throughout his life, Jack held many roles, including firefighter at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, private detective, tour bus driver for a well-known gospel group, X-ray orderly at St. John's Hospital, Omar Bakery deliveryman, and security guard at Anderson University. In his younger years he was an avid skydiver, and he remained active as a gospel singer, youth basketball coach and referee, church youth counselor, and Boy Scout leader. He loved golfing, fishing, and was a longtime season ticket holder for Anderson High School.

Jack’s adventurous spirit took him to 49 states and seven countries across four continents, including several church mission trips with South Meridian Church of God. He fulfilled a lifelong dream by earning his private pilot’s license.

He is survived by his loving wife and best friend of nearly 66 years, Margaret (Ashley) Tomlinson; three children, Lisa Tomlinson, David Tomlinson, and Linda (Daniel) Hopton; grandson Johnathan (Hope) Drennon; three great-grandchildren, Nadia, Patrick, and Rose; brother Bill (Judy) Tomlinson; two sisters-in-law, Liz Macklin and Helen Murar; brothers-in-law Ray Ashley, David (Diane) Ashley, Roger (Joanne) Ashley, and Sherman Stanley; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Margaret Stanley.
