Jack L. Ross, 79, of Doniphan, passed away on March 11, 2026. Born on October 19, 1946, in Grand Island to Durand and Helen (Shimic) Ross, he was raised in Grand Island and graduated from GISH in 1964. While in school, Jack competed on the gymnastics team and qualified for State, and he was an avid baseball player throughout his youth. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1966 until his honorable discharge in 1969.

On May 13, 1970, Jack married Beverly VanBuskirk, and together they raised three children: Demi, Erica, and Brady. He worked for Union Pacific Railroad for 30 years before retiring, then spent the next 17 years working at the Doniphan Gun Club. Jack dedicated many years to coaching the high school trap team. He held a deep passion for horses, owning Thoroughbreds and Quarter Horses, and could often be found at Fonner Park helping on the backside or placing bets from the stands. In later years, he embraced the outdoors through hunting, fishing, golfing, and shooting trap, becoming an accomplished shooter who earned numerous awards and accolades.

He is survived by his children, Demi (Brad) Menke, Erica (Ryan) Krauss, and Brady Ross; grandchildren, Ryley Menke, Jess Menke, Devin Krauss, Dylan Krauss, and Nova Ross; great-grandchildren, Hazel Wissing, Maddox Taylor, and August Krauss; and his brothers, Carm, Jerry, and Tom Ross, along with many nieces and nephews.

Jack was preceded in death by his wife, Beverly, who passed away on March 21, 1992; his parents; his half-sisters, Donna Ross and Jolene Jelinek; his parents-in-law, LaVern and Ruth VanBuskirk; and his brother-in-law, Douglas VanBuskirk.
