Jackie Lee Hilsabeck, 84, of Saint Joseph, Missouri, passed away surrounded by family on March 11, 2026, in Nodaway Nursing Home. Born on April 21, 1941, in Maryville, Missouri, to Lawrence and Norma (Rimel) Hilsabeck, he married Vetra Ilene Stuart on August 25, 1963, at Guilford Methodist Church.

Jack will be remembered for his warm sense of humor and the deep love he held for his family. He taught science at North Andrew High School for 35 years, where he also coached sports and served as a driver’s education instructor. An avid birdwatcher, he was well known in the Missouri birding community and took great pleasure in photographing nature, with many of his images published in magazines over the years. During baseball season, he could always be found cheering on his beloved St. Louis Cardinals.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Larry Hilsabeck. Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Vetra Hilsabeck; sons Jeffrey (Lisa) Hilsabeck of Bucklin, Missouri, and Clay (Jodi) Hilsabeck of Glenwood, Iowa; granddaughters Kallie (Ephraim) Neumann of Defiance, Missouri, and Kasey Hilsabeck of Glenwood, Iowa; grandsons Chase Hilsabeck of Brookfield, Missouri, Cory (Jamen) Hilsabeck of Saint Peters, Missouri, and Jacob Hilsabeck of Glenwood, Iowa; great-grandchildren Bristol, Theodor, and Bellamy; sister Linda Hilsabeck of Maryville, Missouri; and sister-in-law Elaine Hilsabeck of Saint Joseph, Missouri.
