John Deloyd Anderson, 91, of Star Valley, passed away on March 9, 2026. Born and raised in the valley, he spent his life serving his community, his faith, and his family.
For decades, Deloyd served as the trusted veterinarian throughout Star Valley, a time when the local economy centered on livestock and dairy. Known simply as “Doc Anderson,” he earned such respect that letters addressed to him from within a 50-mile radius would reach him without a street address. He worked tirelessly, often forgoing time off, to care for animals and protect the livelihoods of those who depended on them, even when payment was not possible.
He married his college sweetheart, Marilyn Reed, a native of Denver, in the Salt Lake Temple. Together they raised six children: John Alan, Jeffrey Reed, Loree Kay (Cox), Marni Lynn (Manning), David Deloyd, and Dallin Michael. Deloyd and Marilyn took great joy in their children’s spouses, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, never fully grasping the lasting impact of their devoted parenting.
Deloyd was the son of John Delos and Maurine (Michaelson) Anderson, whose strong work ethic and pioneer values shaped him deeply. After completing his veterinary training, he returned to work alongside his brother Rowan on the family ranch, where he passed on the same ethic of hard work and responsibility to the next generation. He is also survived by his sister Joyce, who preceded him in death. He found happiness in snowmobiling with friends, Dutch oven cooking, singing, and weekly temple service with Marilyn in Idaho Falls. He loved the land, his animals, and above all, his family.
