Winsted, MN
Ivan Wodehouse Raconteur, born David John Cox, of Winsted, passed away on March 5, 2026, at the age of 62 after a month in hospice care following several years of health challenges.
A gifted storyteller with a sharp wit, Ivan shared his distinctive voice through his long-running column, Curmudgeon’s Corner, offering readers a blend of local insight, thoughtful reflection, and humor. An avid reader and writer from childhood, he pursued a wide range of interests throughout his life, including fly fishing, kayaking, beer and wine making, golf, photography, and painting. For more than two decades, his deep respect for language and commitment to quality journalism shaped his work at the Herald Journal in Winsted, where he served as staff member, editor, and columnist. In 2024, he published a book of poetry titled Illumination, a collaborative effort with friends from his writing group.
Born in Duluth, Minnesota, to Gerald Cox and Barbara (Korpi) Cox Uttley, Ivan attended Denfeld High School, North Hennepin Community College, Des Moines Area Community College, and Normandale Community College. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Oddio Nib, his brother Dennis (Linda) Cox-Townsend, and his niece Beth Cox-Townsend. He is survived by his brother Dean Cox (Tammy), his “favorite” sister Deborah Seelinger (Tim), several nieces and nephews, and many dear friends, including the “Cheezeballs.”
