Irva Smith Maddox

lrva Smith Maddox, who touched the lives of many as a dedicated teacher and cherished family member, passed away on February 28, 2026, at AdventHealth Lake Wales, under the care of Vitas Hospice. She was born on August 17, 1937, in Gastonia, North Carolina.

lrva was known for her love of travel, having explored various parts of the country, bringing her zest for life into every journey. She also had a passion for walking and treasured moments spent with her family, always making time to create lasting memories.

lrva was preceded in death by her parents, David and Effie Smith. She is survived by her husband of 67 years, Joseph Maddox, Jr.; sons, Joseph Maddox, 111 and his wife Kristen of Saint Pete Beach, Daniel J. Maddox and his wife Jarmila of Tampa, and Samuel Maddox of Titusville; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
