June 26, 1940— March 8, 2026
Fort Pierce, FL
Iredine Trice Frere was born on June 26, 1940, in Dooly County, Georgia, to the late Emerson and Mary Lou Trice. The youngest of four sisters, she shared a unique and special bond with each of them. Those who knew her well understood that Iredine marched to the beat of her own drum, a free-spirited soul who lived life on her own terms. She made her home in Fort Pierce, Florida, where she spent most of her life.
Iredine dedicated more than 26 years of service to the St. Lucie County School Board before retiring. She also possessed a strong entrepreneurial spirit, developing small businesses that became part of the heart of her community. In her free time, she enjoyed exploring thrift stores and garage sales, approaching her passion for shopping with characteristic enthusiasm.
Faith was central to Iredine’s life. A devoted and active member of Greater New Bethel Missionary Baptist Church for many years, she served faithfully in the senior choir, lifting her voice in praise and often reminding others that God is good all the time. She also cared deeply for her neighborhood, contributing her time to the Neighborhood Watch Program to help keep her community safe and peaceful.
Iredine was a sister, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend to many. She was preceded in death by her parents, Emerson and Mary Lou Trice; her sister, Alice May Bens; her daughter, Abby Lane; her granddaughter, Sadatrius Hamilton; her grandson, Degaryion Lane; and her brothers-in-law, Theodore “Ted” English and Charles Richardson. She leaves to cherish her memory her children, Charlene (Edward Black) Young of Syracuse, New York; Gary (Carmen) Trice of Upper Marlboro, Maryland; and Terry Smith of Fort Pierce, Florida; and her sisters, Ernestine English and Emma Lou Richardson. Her legacy continues through her grandchildren, Eric Love of Denver, Colorado; Irastina (Donnell) Reid and Charlene Hamilton, both of Syracuse, New York; Bryant Smith, Shawn Smith, Lequori (Markeisha) Washington, Brianna Smith, Miracle Lane, and Clayton Cox, all of Fort Pierce, Florida; and Terry (Randa) Smith Jr. of Santa Ana, California; as well as a host of great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and dear friends. Iredine’s presence, spirit, and love for life will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
