Ione LeHew

Ione LeHew, 94, of Cedar Rapids, passed away on March 9, 2026, at Hiawatha Care Center.

Born on September 26, 1931, in Central City, Iowa, to A. Franklin and Lillian (Fellows) Mayer, Ione graduated from Central City Community School, where she was an active member of the basketball team. She met the love of her life, Wayne LeHew, in 1949 at a roller rink in Marion, Iowa, and they married on November 26, 1950, in Coggon. The couple made their home in Cedar Rapids, where they shared 73 cherished years together until Wayne’s passing in 2022. Ione retired from Klinger Office Supply and Fidler Business Supply after more than 40 years of service.

A longtime member of Trinity Lutheran Church since 1959, Ione taught Sunday School, belonged to the Fellowship Club, the Joy Group, and Circles, and faithfully organized and served funeral lunches for many years. She had a deep love for travel, visiting all 50 states and 11 countries with Wayne. She also found joy in gardening, hand sewing, and crocheting. Known for her warm smile and friendly nature, Ione never met a stranger and brought kindness to everyone she encountered.

She is survived by many nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and great-great-nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by multiple siblings.
