She immigrated to the United States in September 1954. She resided in Denville, NJ before moving to Doylestown, PA in 2020.Erna was formerly employed as a waitress with Paul's Diner of Denville, NJ for 40 years, before retiring in 2003. She is known for her baking (especially her Christmas cookies) working in her garden and enjoying her flowers.She was the beloved wife of the late Joseph Francis Tilt Jr.; devoted mother of Kathy Tapkas and husband Gary, Robin McCreadie and husband Tom; loving grandmother of Kelly Herkert (Chris), Courtney O'Brien (Joe), Megan Hattenkofer (Rudi), and John McCreadie; cherished great-grandmother of Addison, Avery, and Chase Herkert, Reagan and Blakely O'Brien.A private service will be held at Washington Crossing National Cemetery, 830 Highland Road, Newtown, PA 18940 on Friday, April 10, 2026 at 10:00 am.In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts to American Cancer Society (www.cancer.org) would be appreciated.Send condolences to www.varcoethomasfuneralhome.comTo plant trees in memory, please visit the Sympathy Store.
