Hyatt Minges Field
February 12, 1951— March 9, 2026
Wilson, NC
Hyatt Minges Field died peacefully at home on Monday, March 9, 2026. Born in Birmingham, Alabama on February 12, 1951 to Dr. Charles Hyatt Field and Helen Minges Field, he lived a life devoted to his family, his friends, and above all, to the Lord Jesus Christ.
On July 19, 1980, Hyatt married Debbie Burnette Field, beginning a forty-six-year marriage marked by deep partnership in life, love, and family. He grew up in Macon, Georgia, where he attended Stratford Academy and Lanier High School, forming friendships that remained strong throughout his life. He went on to the University of Georgia, where he cherished his time with his Phi Delta fraternity brothers and maintained a lifelong passion for the Georgia Bulldogs.
After college, Hyatt moved to Rocky Mount, North Carolina, and joined his mother’s family business, Minges Beer Company, later renamed Field Distributing Company with headquarters in Wilson. His dedication to excellence earned his company the prestigious Miller Master’s Award for five consecutive years, an honor shared by only a select few distributors nationwide. He held deep respect and gratitude for his employees, always crediting their hard work for the company’s success. Later in his career, he founded Virginia Field Fine Jewelry, where he delighted in sourcing unique pieces from around the world and building lasting relationships with friends in the industry and his customers.
Above all, Hyatt loved the Lord and found great joy in studying God’s word and in prayer. His compassionate heart for the elderly and those less fortunate showed in quiet, generous acts of service that continued to come to light after his passing. He loved the outdoors, sports, hunting, shooting, and cherished time spent at Wrightsville Beach with family and friends. He is survived by his beloved wife, Debbie Burnette Field; his son, Hyatt Minges Field, Jr. (Jennifer); his daughter, Virginia Elizabeth Field; and his four step-grandchildren, Cameron, Carter, Callen, and Cooper. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers.
