Hyacinth Uranie Blue

1933 — 2026

Framingham, MA

Hyacinth Uranie Blue was born on August 19, 1933, in Guyana, South America, to Elsa Worrell and Reginald Lane. She trained at the Guyana School of Nursing before moving to London, England, in 1965, where she completed her registered nursing qualification. In 1968 she returned briefly to Guyana to work as a nurse, then immigrated permanently to London in 1969. Three years later, in 1973, she settled in New York City and continued her nursing career while earning a Master’s degree in Public Health. There she founded the Anne Blue Home Health Care Agency, training home health aides and placing licensed nurses throughout the city.

After retiring, Hyacinth moved to Framingham, Massachusetts, to live with her son. A devout Christian, she supported numerous religious institutions around the world. She was deeply devoted to her family and took great pride in the education of those she loved. In memory of her daughter, she established the Friends of Anne Blue, which awarded scholarships to students in Guyana. She also regularly sent clothing and Christmas gifts to families in need there. Hyacinth cherished travel and believed a strong education was the greatest gift one could offer the next generation.

She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Neville John Blue, and her daughter, Anne Blue Cooke (Donald). She is survived by her loving son, David Blue (Lisa); her grandchildren, Tifanni Schafler, Diana Blue, and David Blue Jr.; her great-grandchildren, Hayden Schafler, Donovan Schafler, Alec Lagace, Isla Lagace, Mackenzie Blue, and Tyler Blue; and her brother, Ralph Worrell of London, England.

Hyacinth was truly loved and will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Her legacy of faith, generosity, and quiet strength will endure through the many lives she touched.
