Hugh "Pappy" James Baugher

Hugh James Baugher, known affectionately as Pappy, age 77, of Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully on March 12, 2026, surrounded by his family.

Born on February 17, 1949, in West Chester, Pennsylvania, Hugh was the son of the late Earl Baugher Sr. and Catherine (O’Connor) Baugher. He graduated from Bishop Shanahan High School in West Chester and went on to earn a Bachelor of Science in Accounting and a Bachelor of Science in Business Management from Immaculata University. From 1969 to 1972, he served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam era, working in the Intelligence Division specializing in Morse Code. The precision, discipline, and focus he brought to that role remained hallmarks of his character throughout his life.

Above all, Hugh was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He is lovingly remembered by his wife, Donna Armstrong Baugher, and their children: Tammy (Jeff) Ludwig of Florida, Janea Adkins of North Carolina, and J. Bradley Armstrong of Pennsylvania. He was a proud Pappy to his twelve grandchildren: Brenna, Cayleen, Caden (Madison), Gavin, Zane, Joel Grant Jr., Jack, Riley, Sydney, David “Mac,” Mason, and Madelynn. He is also survived by his brothers, Earl Baugher Jr. (Connie) of New Mexico and Francis Baugher (Linda) of Downingtown, Pennsylvania. He was preceded in death by his brother Joseph, his sister Catherine, and his brother- and sister-in-law, R. Allen and Vicki Katherman.

Hugh’s life was defined not by titles or possessions, but by the quiet strength of his hands and the steady presence he offered to those he loved. He built a family that felt safe, supported, and deeply cherished, and it is that family who will carry his love forward.
