Hugh Hillhouse

Hugh Hillhouse, 81, of Erie, passed away on Wednesday, March 11, 2026 at UPMC Hamot, surrounded by his loving family.

Born on February 2, 1945 in Millcreek, he was the son of the late William and Mary (Wood) Hillhouse. Hugh graduated from McDowell High School, served in the US Army, and attended EIT Electrical Training. He went on to work for the Erie Times newspaper, from which he retired.

A devoted family man, Hugh faithfully attended the sports events and activities of his children and grandchildren. He will be remembered for his quick wit and his endless supply of pranks that touched his co-workers, friends, neighbors, and family alike. He took pride in being a self-proclaimed handyman, though he was known for rarely completing a project.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother William Hillhouse, his sister-in-law Ruth Hillhouse, and his brother-in-law Richard Case. Hugh is survived by his loving wife of 35 years, Carol Hillhouse; his daughter, Courtney Hillhouse; his sons, Hugh Hillhouse (Sharyn) and William Hillhouse; his sister, Gina Case; and his grandchildren, Skyler Lowery, Kira and Derek Hillhouse, Alexander Hillhouse, and Finley and Sawyer Kauffman. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
