Howard X. Kurgan

Howard X. Kurgan, who was formerly known as Steve W. Scoggins, passed away on March 12, 2026. Born on August 14, 1982, he graduated from Ashville High School and the University of Alabama. He spent several years working for St. Clair County Schools. A lifelong advocate for respecting the lives of all creatures and protecting the earth, Howard was an ethical vegan who took great pleasure in experimenting with new recipes and grew into an accomplished chef.

He is survived by his mother, Lynn S. Cox of Margaret, his brother Brian M. Robillard, and his nephews Liam and Dylan, all of Albuquerque, New Mexico. He was preceded in death by his father, John A. Scoggins of Odenville.

A private service will be held later for the family.
