Howard William Fitzpatrick, "Howie", of Fort Mill. SC, formerly of Farmington and Madison, CT, went to be with his Lord and Savior on March 1, 2026, peacefully at home. He was born on July 23, 1943 in Boston, MA, son of the late Howard and Helen Fitzpatrick.
Raised in Milton, MA, Howie grew up with his father's passion for the Boston Red Sox and it continued throughout his life. He graduated from Boston College High School and Marlboro College, Marlboro, VT.
Howie entered the U.S. Air Force in 1968, was commissioned Second Lieutenant and served at various continental U.S. and overseas locations. Discharged in 1972, Howie joined the Connecticut Air National Guard at the 103d Tactical Control Squadron, Orange, CT, as Operations Officer. Following his return to active duty, he assumed the position of Commander of the Squadron. In 1992, Howie was reassigned to the 103md Fighter Wing (A-10 Thunderbolt I| aircraft), Windsor Locks, CT and served as Logistics Commander. He retired in 1997 as Lieutenant Colonel from the Air National Guard and the Air Force.
Howie began his civilian career working as Technical Training Manager for Veeder-Root Corporation. In 1999, he began work with The Hartford Financial Services as Call Center Manager in Southington, CT and subsequently in Charlotte, NC until retirement in 2012. Howie was an avid golfer since the age of 12 and enjoyed the camaraderie with his golf friends in Four Seasons.
Howie was an active member of Calvary Church, Charlotte, NC where he worshiped Jesus Christ, his Lord and Savior. His family was extremely important to him and he will be remembered as a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend.
Howie leaves a legacy to be cherished by his survivors, Evelyn Fitzpatrick, his wife of 28 years, daughter Meghan Fitzpatrick of Branford, CT, sons Brendan Fitzpatrick and wife Stephanie of Falls Church, VA, Sean Fitzpatrick and wife Kristen of North Kingstown, RI; stepdaughter Carolyn Kahn and husband David of Fort Mill, SC; stepson Christopher Rukus and wife Susan of Charlotte, NC; grandchildren Bailey, Chloe, Caroline and Caitlin Fitzpatrick of Falls Church, VA and Teddy, George and Maggie Fitzpatrick of North Kingstown, RI and step grandchildren Rachel, Natalie and Coleman Rukus of Charlotte, NC.
A celebration of life service will be held by the family on Saturday, March 28 at 11:00am at Calvary Church Chapel with the inurnment to follow. In lieu of flowers, a memorial donation can be made to Samaritan's Purse.
