Coeur d'Alene, ID
Howard “Sonny” Marshall Jones, 87, of Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, passed away peacefully on March 9, 2026.
Born on October 22, 1938, in Hamilton, Ohio, Howard grew from humble beginnings into a man defined by quiet devotion to his country, his family, his faith, and the simple pleasures of life. He served four years in the United States Navy, an experience that instilled in him a lifelong sense of patriotism and discipline. After his military service, he worked as a skilled electrician, earning respect for his strong work ethic and steady hands.
He shared his life with his beloved wife, Dorothy Nell Jones (née Cole). Together they raised three sons, Michael, Patrick, and Timothy Jones, creating a home filled with love, laughter, and faith. Howard’s legacy lives on through his nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild, each of whom brought him great joy.
He was an avid fisherman who found peace on the water, a dedicated Bible scholar who studied and shared his faith with thoughtfulness, and a passionate student of history. Known for his quick wit and playful humor, he delighted in entertaining his grandchildren with clever remarks and stories. A proud Alabama Crimson Tide fan, he followed his team with unwavering enthusiasm, often declaring “Roll Tide!” He also embraced his self-described role as a “professional TV enthusiast,” enjoying his favorite programs with the same steady dedication he brought to everything he did.
Those who knew Howard will remember his warmth, his storytelling, his steadfast faith, and the deep love he held for his family. His presence filled a room, and his absence will be deeply felt.
