Howard Roberts ObituaryObituary published on Legacy.com by Peck Funeral Home - Hartselle on Mar. 8, 2026.Funeral service for Howard Lyle "Buddy" Roberts age 84 of Hartselle will be Tuesday, March 10, 2026, at 3:00pm at Peck Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Clyde Ledlow, Brother Tony Johnson, and Skip Drinkard officiating with burial in the Hartselle Memory Gardens Cemetery with Peck Funeral Home directing. Visitation will be from 1:00pm until 3:00pm on Tuesday at the funeral home.Mr. Roberts, who was born on March 31, 1941, in Hartselle, Alabama to Horace Lyle Roberts and Elizabeth Burleson Roberts, died on Saturday, March, 7, 2026 at his home in Hartselle.He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife; Ann, a brother; David, and a sister; Eleanor McCord.Buddy was a 1959 Graduate of Morgan County High School where he excelled in football being named the 1959 Most Valuable Player. He married the love of his life, Sara Ann Mattox Roberts in November of 1960. He was a wonderful family man, a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He loved family gatherings and as long as his health permitted, he supported all the Grandchildren's ballgames. Buddy enjoyed meeting his buddies for breakfast every morning and sharing in good fellowship.Buddy retired from his job that he thoroughly enjoyed with NASA at Redstone Arsenal, where he filmed Safely and Training Videos for the Military. When he wasn't at Redstone, he was on his family farm in Hartselle. He was a fish farmer, and avid scuba diver, a hunter, and a wonderful conservationist, building duck boxes and feeding deer. Being known as a true workaholic, he was always busy, however, he did have a love for SEC football, dancing, and true country music, loving the songs of Waylon Jennings and Conway Twitty and many others.Survivors include:Son: Matt Roberts (Haley)Daughter: Wendy Roberts Bailey (Gary)5 Grandchildren: Garrett Bailey, Hunter Bailey (Madeline), Jackson Roberts,Landon Terry (McKenzie), Rhett Roberts4 Great-Grandchildren: Cal, Carrington, Slayden, and CamptonGarrett Bailey, Hunter Bailey, Jackson Roberts, Brain Sharp, Jacob Roberts, Van Glascock, Jeffery Orr, and Will Powell will serve as pallbearers.Skip Drinkard, Jerry Wilson, and Richard "Dickey Pat" Clemons will serve as Honor Pallbearers.To plant trees in memory, please visit the Sympathy Store.
