Hortencia Santana, affectionately known as Tencha, was born on February 28, 1930, in Agujita, Coahuila, Mexico, to Bonifacio Santana and Petra Alvarado. She passed away on March 5, 2026, in Atascosa, Texas, at the age of 96, surrounded by her children and family.

Tencha was the steadfast pillar of her family, a constant source of love, wisdom, and strength. She raised eight children in Agujita, instilling in them a fighting spirit and unwavering devotion to family. Even after many of her loved ones settled in San Antonio, Texas, she remained deeply connected to her Mexican roots, frequently traveling back to visit. She found joy in music, dancing, and gathering with family to celebrate life’s special moments.

She is survived by her children Homero Morales, Wvaldo Morales (Maribel), Daniel Morales (Christina), Cesar Morales (Bero), and Lydia Garza (Arturo); her daughters-in-law Juanita Sánchez, Nina Estrada, Maria Victoria Lara, and Maria Sanchez Palma; her son-in-law Alberto Jimenez; 32 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren, and 10 great-great-grandchildren, along with other extended family members.

Hortencia was preceded in death by her parents, Bonifacio and Petrita; her son Miguel De Luna; her daughters María Jiménez and Elsa Morales; her siblings Rita, Bonifacio, and Amaro; and other dear family members. She leaves behind a lasting legacy of love, unity, and resilience that will continue to live on through all the lives she touched.
