Lewiston, ME
Hope "Hopie" Roseanna Hughes, 69, of Lewiston, passed away on March 11, 2026, at CMMC. Born in Lewiston on April 7, 1956, she was the daughter of Leo and Arlene (Murray) Dostie.
Hope spent many years as a stitcher in the Lewiston area, working at Knapp Shoe and Acorn Slipper. She also worked as a bartender at the Midtown Social Club, at numerous local bingo halls, and for many years at Goodwill in Lewiston. She found great joy in going to the casino with her sister Teena and niece Pam, playing bingo and cards with friends, and spending time with family during holidays and special occasions. She loved trips to the beach and pool, camping at Range Pond Campground, and the company of her cats, Charlie and her late cat Pretty Girl.
Known for her blunt honesty and a heart of gold, Hope always went out of her way for those she loved. Her contagious laugh and bright smile could light up any room. She cherished her many close friendships, especially those formed at bingo, and held dear her longtime bonds with Diane Hepburn, Tina Ouellette, Elizabeth “Betty” Richard Therrien, Louise Blouin, Diane Auger, and Jane Burns.
Above all, Hope treasured her role as “Nana” to her grandson Kendric, whom she adored and spoiled at every opportunity. She shared a deep, loving bond with her only child, her daughter Kerry, filled with laughter and cherished memories. She is survived by her daughter Kerry Jean Purvis and husband Devaughn of Hammond, Louisiana, grandson Kendric Jean of Wilton, Maine, sisters Linda (Roger) Scott of Little River, South Carolina, and Teena (Greg) Provencher of Rumford, Maine, as well as Pamela Karcher of Lewiston, and many cousins, nieces, and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents and siblings Bobbie (Pat) Ritchie, Ronnie (Val) Ritchie, Joe Dostie, Rose (Jim) Hill, and Tom (Irene) Dostie.
