Homer Yates Jr

Homer Yates Jr., 65, of West Point, Illinois, passed away at his home on Tuesday, March 10, 2026. Born on February 23, 1961, at home in McDowell, Kentucky, he was the son of Homer Sr. and Maudie (Isaac) Yates. On May 11, 1983, he married Tammy Hermann in Plano, Texas.

Homer spent most of his working life as a skilled roofer. He took pride in his craft and was always willing to lend a hand. In his free time he could usually be found in his garage, happily tinkering with old Chevys. Above all, he cherished the moments spent with his children and grandchildren, who brought him his greatest joy.

He is survived by his wife, Tammy Yates of West Point; his children, Brandi (Robert) Pittman of West Point and James (Deanna) Yates of West Point; his grandchildren, Destiny, Karlee, and Ryan Alred, Ryker Pittman, Annika, Aiken, and Aliza Yates; his sisters, Debbie (Bill) Elgert, Iris Cournoyer, and Sharon (David) Castro; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers, Kenneth Yates and Johnny Arthur.
