Homer was born in Chattanooga, Tennessee, to the late Joe and Nellie Harris. He was a lifetime resident of the Chattanooga-Northwest Georgia area. Homer was one of our American Heroes. He selflessly served his country as a member of the United States Marine Corps. After his time in service, he worked for the Tennessee Valley Authority as a power plant operator, then for the University of Tennessee–Chattanooga. He was of the Baptist faith. Homer was a devoted family man who loved his family dearly, especially his grandkids. He always enjoyed traveling with his wife of fifty-eight years, whom he deeply missed. Homer was fully devoted to his family. He loved being goofy with his grandkids and gave the best bear hugs in the world. He had the wonderful "gift of gab" and never met a stranger. Above all, Homer treasured his family and enjoyed every moment with them. Though he may be gone from our sight, his love, strength, and legacy will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.Homer is preceded in death by his dear wife of fifty-eight years, Sylvia Earlene Harris; parents, Joe V. and Nellie Harris; and beloved grandson, Colby Jason Harris. Those left to cherish his memory include his children, Angela Templeton of Chattanooga, Tennessee, and Jerry (Lori) Harris of East Ridge, Tennessee; sister, Betty Clady of Chickamauga, Georgia; grandchildren, Elizabeth Hughes, Darla Harris (Hunter) Hawkins, Gabby Harris, Robert Harris, Alaina Templeton, Chloe Templeton, and Jonathon Parton; great-grandchildren, Paislee Parton, Kinsley Hughes, Riley Hughes, and Lucas Hawkins; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Vicki and Raymond Royal of Henegar, Alabama; sister-in-law, Linda Harris of Athens, Alabama; and several nieces and nephews. The family invites friends and loved ones to join us in remembering and honoring Homer on Wednesday, March 18, 2026, from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. The funeral service will be held at 11:30 a.m. on the same day.
