He was born on March 13, 1933. He is preceded in death by his parents Nepunoceno EscaleraAnd Rosario Paz, his sisters(Angelita Treviño and Josie Trevino), his daughters, Herlinda "Doll" Villarreal and Juanita Escalera, his son, Ernesto Escalera, and his grandson Fredrick"Tronco" Tames.Higino is survived by his loving wife of 72 years, Eldefonsa, and their 4 children, with whom he built a large and loving family. Together, they raised their family on the West Side of San Antonio on Callahgan and Hwy 90. Here, Higino worked hard and cared for their home, raising goats, pigs, and chickens.Known to many as "El Jinio," Higino was well loved in his community. As a teenager, he,developed a passion for racing horses and even became a jockey. Throughout his life, he was known for his strong work ethic and dedication to providing for his family, working as a carpenter, and playing music in local bars to earn extra money.When people asked him who his favorite child was, his answer was always the same: "I never had any favorites. My love for them was all the same."Higino had a special bond with his grandchildren. He gave each of them a nickname that stayed with them well into adulthood, a tradition that continued with his great-grandchildren. They will always cherish his stories, his music, watching him play his guitar, and listening to the memories he shared about his life.He especially loved when his grandchildren visited, which often happened daily, filling his home with laughter and joy.Higino leaves behind his children Diana Flores (Eddie), Maria Tames, Virgie and Higino Jr. Escalera, also known as Flaco, 6 grandchildren Eddie Jr, Ernie, Esteban Flores, Ariel Garcia, Neomi, and Tony Villarreal As well as 17 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson who will continue to honor his memory. His brothers Miguel, Cheno, Santos Escalera; his sisters Anita Cant', Lina Galan, Tomasa Davila, Irene Gonzales, Velia Mundine, Rosa and Guadalupe Escalera. Along with numerous nieces and nephews.He will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who knew and loved him.To plant trees in memory, please visit the Sympathy Store.
