His siblings were the late Robert John, the late Kathleen (Donald) Servis, and Nancy Anne (Thomas) Messman, all of Rensselaer.
Lee attended schools in Remington, Valparaiso, Wadena, and Dayton before graduating from Buffalo High School and Purdue University. On August 10, 1958, he married Vera Lee Bible, daughter of Willard Raymond and Dora Gertrude (Imler) Bible, in the Buffalo Christian Church. Together they raised three sons, Bruce Jeffery (Erika), Robert Shawn (Marsha), and the late Paul Edward Tweedie. He is also survived by four grandchildren, Theresa (Kristofer) Jeanneret, Michael Francis Tweedie, Shannon Nicole Tweedie, and Robert Braden Tweedie, and two great-grandchildren, Chloe and Sophia Jeanneret.
He began his career with the Indiana Department of Transportation on August 16, 1957, as a highway technician and retired on December 1, 2000, as a project supervisor overseeing bridge and building construction. In October 1960 he enlisted in the US Army Reserves at the North Judson artillery unit and was honorably discharged as a Staff Sergeant in 1961.
A longtime member of the Elston Presbyterian Church of Lafayette, Lee was deeply involved in Masonry. He was an active member of Winamac Lodge #262 F&AM, serving as Worshipful Master in 1972, 1998, 1999, and 2000, and as secretary for many years. He was also a member of Tippecanoe Chapter #96 Order of the Eastern Star, serving multiple times as Worthy Patron, and held leadership roles with the Pulaski Chapter Order of DeMolay and Winamac Chapter Order of Rainbow. He served as an ambassador for the Indiana Masonic Home in Franklin and was a member of Dayton Lodge #103 F&AM and the Greater Lafayette High Twelve Club.
In 1980 Lee became active in Boy Scouting, serving for 23 years as committee member, assistant Scoutmaster, and Scoutmaster of District #1 in the Sagamore Council. He received the District Award of Merit and the Silver Beaver, and was a 19-year member of Takachsin Lodge Order of the Arrow, Chapter #1 Advisor, and a Vigil member. He also volunteered for many years with 4-H geology groups. In his free time he enjoyed traveling, rock hunting, lapidary work, fishing, and collecting antique engines and Cushman Motor Scooters.
Lee passed away on March 20, 2026. He will be remembered as a devoted husband, father, and grandfather who gave generously of his time and talents to his community, his church, and the many young people whose lives he touched.
