Herbert Thomas “Tom” Jennings Jr., 84, passed away peacefully in Louisville, Kentucky, on March 14, 2026. Born on March 31, 1941, in Louisville, he grew up on a family farm in Shelbyville, where he later married his high school sweetheart. Tom graduated from Eastern Kentucky University with a bachelor’s degree in commerce and was commissioned as a second lieutenant in the U.S. Army. He continued serving in the Army Reserves, attaining the rank of Captain, while building a life and family in Louisville.
After his military service, Tom enjoyed a 21-year career with Hoechst-Celanese Pharmaceuticals in sales and government affairs. A man of deep faith, he was an active member of Woodland Baptist Church in Louisville for fifty years before becoming part of Hurstbourne Baptist Church in his later years. His greatest joys were his sons, working the land, fishing, and sharing stories from his life.
Tom was predeceased by his wife, Dorothy L. Jennings; his son, Benjamin L. Jennings; and his sister, Patricia A. Jennings. He is survived by his sons, Mark T. Jennings (Beth) and James T. Jennings; his sister, Rosemary Vaughan (Edgar); nephews Ryan Vaughan and Scott Vaughan (Tasha); and niece Leanna Allen (Dustin).
