Herbert James Meyer Jr.

Herbert James Meyer Jr., 70, of West Dundee, Illinois, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Tuesday, March 10, 2026.

Born on January 26, 1956, in Davenport, Iowa, to the late Herbert James Meyer Sr. and JoAnne Louise McDonnell, Herb married Dawn Lynn Stevens on October 8, 1983, in Mount Prospect, Illinois. The couple shared more than 52 years together.

He is survived by his loving wife, Dawn L. Meyer; his children, Michael Meyer, Steven (Melissa) Meyer, and Katherine (Alex Reese) Meyer; grandchildren Sadie, Madelyn, Connor, and Kendall Meyer; siblings Jeff (Sharon) Meyer, Julie (John) Jirschele, Tim Meyer, and Michael (Janet) Meyer; and many nieces, nephews, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents.

After a long and dedicated career in the car business, Herb retired with a reputation for his strong work ethic and generous spirit. He treated everyone with warmth and respect, never met a stranger, and was known for his curiosity, broad knowledge, and quick sense of humor. A man of deep faith with a huge heart, he loved spending time outdoors, watching movies—especially Marvel films—and sharing advice or trivia with anyone who would listen. Above all, Herb cherished his family and made sure they always felt his love. He will be remembered as a devoted son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and friend whose kindness and humor touched everyone who knew him.
