Herbert Hummel Jr.

Herbert Hummel Jr., 95, of Blandon, passed away on Sunday, March 15, 2026 at the Reading Hospital. He was the husband of the late SallyAnn H. (Yohn) Hummel. Born in Hamburg, PA, he was the son of the late Herbert Hummel Sr. and Irma (Silbiger) Hummel. Herbert graduated from Mt. Penn High School in 1948. He was also a graduate of Penn State University with a Bachelor's Degree in Education as well as Temple University where he obtained his Master's in Education. Herbert was a proud member of the United States Marine Corps, serving in the Korean War. He was an active member of the Russel M. Butterweck Detachment of the Marine Corp League for many years where he also served as Commandant. Herbert was a math teacher for Northwest Junior High School in the Reading School District for 35 years, retiring in 1992. He was a former member of Bethany Evangelical Lutheran Church in Stony Creek Mills.Herbert is survived by his children; Lynn Fowler, wife of Jonathan B. Fowler, of Elkton, MD, and Robin A. Shane, wife of Steven A. Shane, of Blandon, PA. He is also survived by 5 grandchildren; Michael, Tabitha, Shanna, Cory, and Sarah, as well as his great-grandchildren; Hanlee, Brynn, Greyson, Declan, and Maggie. Herbert was preceded in death by his son Steven R. Hummel, his grandson Steven Hummel Jr., his great-grandson Aiden Cook, and his three brothers, Emmet, Curtis and Richard.Visitation with family and friends will be held on Friday, March 20, 2026 from 10:00 am to 11:00 am with services beginning at 11:00 am at Lutz Funeral Home, Inc., 2100 Perkiomen Avenue, Reading, PA 19606. Interment will be held privately. Lutz Funeral Home, Inc. has been entrusted with the arrangements.
