Mercer, WI
Henry “Hank” N. Oleson passed away on March 10, 2026 after a courageous battle with stage 4 cancer.
Born on April 25, 1931 in Port Edwards, Wisconsin to Henry and Emma (Jensen) Oleson Sr., Hank graduated from John Edwards High School before beginning work at the Port Edwards paper mill. He was drafted into the Army and served in Korea from 1951 to 1953. In 1954 he married the love of his life, Angeline Herms, in Nekoosa, Wisconsin. The couple lived in Pittsville from 1968 until retirement, later moving to Mercer, Wisconsin where they enjoyed lakeside living, fishing, hosting their annual pig roast, and snowmobiling. In their later years they spent winters in Mesa, Arizona, where they formed many new friendships and took frequent road trips.
Hank was known for his quick wit, his deep devotion to Angie, and his love of the casino. He took great pride in his military service and was honored to have a memorial stone at both the Highground and the Pittsville Veterans memorial. He served on the board of the Lake of the Falls Association and remained a life member of the VFW in Mercer and a member of the American Legion in Pittsville.
He is survived by his wife of 71 years, Angeline, daughters Diane (Steve O’Dell) and Laura (John Pichler), son Robert (Pamula), grandchildren Nicole (Jim) Schill, Jesse (Jolene) Schiller, Patrick (Kaitlin) Schiller, Amber Crawford, Nathan (Jessie) Oleson, and Casey (Katie) Oleson, great-grandchildren Brett (Molly), Jared, Jacob, Sawyer, Kaden, Jenna, Kaylee, Emilie, Orion, and Bodhi, brother Harold (Karen) Oleson, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his in-laws William and Helena Herms, son-in-law Jonathon Schiller, sisters and brothers-in-law Elaine and Gerald Cattanach, LaVerne and Edwin Kauth, Richard and Janet Oleson, and Francis and Charlotte Herms.
