He was predeceased by: his parents, Henry W. Brevard and Belle Wood Brevard; his son Darryl W. Brevard; his sister Henrietta B. Mitchell; his parents-in-law, William P. Gilmore, Sr. and Mary S. Gilmore; and his brothers-in-law, Arnold C. Mitchell, Sr., William Gilmore, II and Maurice Gilmore.
He is survived by: his daughter Dr. Nicole Brevard-Hines (Edison); his daughter-in-law Dr. Veronica Richmond Brevard; his granddaughters, VaShannon Brevard, Hadyn Hines and Amethyst Ganaway; and his siblings-in-law, Singleton Gilmore, Shirley Gilmore Tate, Martha Gilmore and Tina Gilmore.
Viewing will be held on Friday, March 13th 2026 from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Gethers Funeral Home (200 Grace St, Moncks Corner, SC 29461). A funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 14th 2026 at 11:00 AM at the Church of the Redeemer (2677 SC-45, Pineville, SC 29468).
In recognition of his dedication and contributions to education and community advancement, he received numerous honors, including Adult Education Director of the Year (1977), the South Carolina Department of Education Award for Community Service (1979), the Service Award for Program Development (1981), and the National Association for Equal Opportunity in Higher Education Distinguished Alumnus of the Year Award (1990).
