Somerset, NJ
Helen Scott was born on April 20, 1929, in South River, New Jersey, the daughter of the late William and Dollie Mickey. She passed away on March 10, 2026, at the age of 96.
She grew up in Keyport, New Jersey, as the oldest of four children and graduated from South River High School. From her youth onward, Helen had a deep love for singing and once performed on WLIB radio station. In 1950 she married William Scott, and the couple settled first in New Brunswick before moving to Somerset in 1961, where she lived for the rest of her life. Helen worked for Johnson & Johnson in the 1950s and later joined the Facilities department at Rutgers University, from which she retired in 1993.
Deeply devoted to her community and family, she sang with the Franklin Township Swinging Singing Seniors and enjoyed many trips with the Parkside Seniors club. Her home was always open to family and friends for summer cookouts, holiday dinners, and lively gatherings before Rutgers home football games. She is remembered as a warm and welcoming presence who placed her family at the center of her life.
Helen was predeceased by her brothers Richard Mickey of Colonia and Thomas Mickey of Highland Park, and her sister Dorothy Mayo of Highland Park. She is survived by her son William Scott of Somerset and her daughters Wendy Scott and Wanda Scott, both of Franklin Park, along with many nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
