July 2, 1948— March 9, 2026
Pampa, TX
Helen McGill, 77, of Pampa, passed away peacefully on Monday, March 9, 2026, in Pampa.
Born on July 2, 1948, in Pampa to McRoy and Velma Wright, Helen graduated from Pampa High School and earned her cosmetology license while still a student. She proudly maintained that license for more than 63 years. After working as a hairdresser, she built a long career in sales with RDA Promart, traveling throughout the area to supply beauty products. Those who knew her admired her strength and independence, qualities she carried with quiet pride, along with her deep connection to her Native American heritage.
On August 1, 1967, Helen married Bill McGill in Pampa. The couple shared more than 58 years of marriage, during which Bill affectionately called her his “Wonder Woman.” A devoted mother and “mimi,” Helen showered love not only on her own children and grandchildren but also on the neighborhood children who gravitated toward her. Friday nights were especially cherished, when her grandchildren would sleep over and she delighted in giving them whatever their hearts desired. She found pure joy in being around kids and in spoiling them generously.
In later years, Helen became a jewelry dealer, spending many happy hours at craft shows where she sold her pieces, visited with friends, and made new ones. She looked forward to trips to Las Vegas and to attending markets where she selected jewelry both to sell and to keep for herself.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Helen is survived by her husband Bill; daughter Delisa Hendrick and husband Jason of Amarillo; son David McGill and wife Deanna of Pampa; grandchildren Chase Hendrick, Caige Hendrick and wife Makayla, Macy Hendrick, and Dacie Dunham and husband Caleb; great-grandchildren Layla Ann, Emma Grace, and soon-to-arrive Rowan Lee; and brother Wendell “Bunky” Wright and wife Linda of Sherman. The family holds special gratitude for the caregivers from Interim Healthcare, Crystal, Patsy, and her private care provider, Stephanie.
