Helen Louise Higginbotham

1938 — 2026

Lorain, OH

Helen L. Higginbotham, née Coburn, age 87, of Lorain, passed away at her home on March 12, 2026, surrounded by her loving family. Born on October 13, 1938, in Greenup County, Kentucky, to the late Riley and Gladys Coburn, Helen lived for many years in Amherst before making her home with her son.

In addition to her work as a homemaker, she drove a yellow school bus in her younger years and served as a kindergarten teacher aide at the former Hawthorne Boone School in Lorain. Later, she was employed in the housekeeping department at the former Good Samaritan Nursing Home in Avon. Helen found joy in cooking, gardening, canning, crocheting, and arts and crafts. Those who knew her remember her singing throughout the house as she went about her day.

She was deeply loved and cared for by her sons. For a time Harold looked after her, followed by many years with her son William “Billy” and his family until his passing. In her final months, she was lovingly cared for by her son David. Helen passed peacefully, cherished by all who knew her.

She is survived by her son David of Lorain, eight grandchildren, and many great-grandchildren. Helen was preceded in death by her husband, Clayton, in 2006, her sons Harold and William “Billy,” and her brothers Albert, Leroy, and Dick Coburn.
