February 3, 1928— March 8, 2026
Riverdale, NY
Helen Liaskos, a beloved mother, grandmother, thea, nouna, and dear friend to many, passed away on Sunday, March 8, 2026, at the age of 98.
Raised in Rockaway Beach, New York, alongside her older sisters Georgette and Irene, Helen grew up just one block from the ocean. That proximity fostered a lifelong love of the beach, a joy she lovingly passed on to her entire family.
At the age of 24, she married her cherished husband, Stephen, with whom she shared more than 45 years of marriage. Together they raised their two children, Maria and Peter, in Riverdale, New York. Helen was a devoted mother who placed family at the center of her life. She warmly welcomed Maria’s marriage to Tom and Peter’s marriage to Carrie, and in her later years found her greatest happiness in the company of her grandchildren, Christopher, Stephen, and Luke, taking quiet delight in their accomplishments and everyday moments.
Known for her kindness, empathy, strong convictions, and gracious presence, Helen offered gentle guidance and heartfelt encouragement to family, friends, and neighbors alike. Her thoughtful regard made even brief encounters feel meaningful. Her Greek Orthodox Christian faith was a cornerstone of her daily life, providing strength and guiding her as she faithfully attended services at parishes throughout the greater New York City area.
Helen enjoyed a 25-year career with Paine Webber, later UBS, in Manhattan, where she was deeply respected by her colleagues. In retirement, she first remained in New York, enjoying time with her son Peter and his family, before moving to Massachusetts for the last decade of her life to be near her daughter Maria and son-in-law Fr. Tom.
