Helen Freeman Hessom

June 4, 1936 March 10, 2026

Nederland, TX

Helen Freeman Hessom, age 89, of Nederland, Texas, passed away peacefully on March 10, 2026. Born on June 4, 1936, in Healdton, Oklahoma, she lived a full life marked by deep devotion to her family, her faith, and her community.

Helen worked as a secretary at Westinghouse Electric in Beaumont, where she was known for her diligence and steady commitment. Beyond her career, she was remembered as a woman of strong faith and as a good and faithful servant of the Lord. Those who knew her cherished her joyful spirit, her love of music—especially the songs of Elvis and Bruno Mars—and the delight she found in dancing. She also followed sports with enthusiasm, particularly cheering for Lamar University and the Oklahoma Sooners, and she took great pleasure in collecting baby dolls, a quiet reflection of her nurturing nature.

Her kindness and generosity touched many lives. Helen was always ready to help anyone in need, and her caring heart left a lasting impression on all who knew her.

She is survived by her daughters, Marcia Solis and her husband Robert of Nederland, Pam Haley of Dallas, and Rhonda Melancon of Nederland; her grandchildren, Bobby Solis, Kim Heinz, Michael Haley, Spencer Long, Jesse Askew, Brooke Gresham, Sonnie Brewer, and Macey Sullivan; seventeen great-grandchildren; and her brother, Vincent Freeman of Healdton, Oklahoma. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Hessom; her daughter, Donna Sullivan; her parents, William and Lois Freeman; her brother, Billy Freeman; and her sister, Wilma McFatridge.
