Hazel Wyvetta Johnson Murray

1938 — 2026

Canton, NC

Hazel Wyvetta Johnson Murray passed away on March 10, 2026 at Solace Hospice. She was the daughter of Harley and Allie Johnson and the widow of Gerald Murray, a deeply devoted wife and mother.

Hazel worked for the American Enka Company in Quality Control and served as a shop steward in the workers’ union, fearlessly advocating for those she represented. Her greatest passion was her faith, serving and witnessing for her Lord with the same zeal she brought to loving and caring for her family. A dedicated community servant, she taught reading to those in jail and counseled on a suicide hotline, offering empathy and help to everyone she met. She was the epitome of a loving mother, cherishing her sons with an unquenchable passion. She enjoyed fishing with Steve and hiking and exploring the outdoors with Brian. Hazel remained deeply devoted to her large extended family, who returned that devotion in full. She was a rare person whose empathy touched all who knew her.

She will be forever missed and leaves her mark on many lives. Hazel is survived by her sons, Brian and Steve, her sister Alice Morgan, her nieces Monica and Carmen Morgan, Barbara Derrick, and Christy McMinn, as well as many other family members.
