MITCHELL, Hattie Fay Jan 23, 1930 March 03 2026 Hattie Fay Mitchell, a resident of Plano, Texas, passed away peacefully on March 3, 2026, at the remarkable age of 96. She was born on January 23, 1930 to Lewis Washington Shipley and Mary Adeline (Schaffer) Shipley in Garland, Texas. Fay spent her formative years in Rose Hill and Garland, where she was a proud graduate of Garland High School, class of 1947. Fay married her soulmate, the late Alvin Russell Mitchell, on July 9, 1955, in Garland. Together, they created a beautiful life filled with love, laughter, and cherished memories until Alvin's passing in 2014. She devoted her time to caring for her family and giving back to her church and community. Fay poured her heart into everything she did, becoming a charter member of Meadows Baptist Church in Plano, Texas, where she devoted over 40 years to teaching Sunday School and nurturing the young ones around her. Her love for children was as big as her heart! A passionate Baylor women's basketball fan, Fay celebrated every game with enthusiasm, sharing that joy with her family. She was especially devoted to her grandchildren and took immense pride in their accomplishments. In her spare time, Fay found joy in needlepoint, embroidery and crossword puzzles while keeping up with current events by reading the Dallas Morning News. Fay is survived by her sons, Bruce Mitchell and girlfriend, Marion Cunningham of Plano, Texas and Chris Mitchell, also of Plano, Texas; four grandchildren, Melynne Connell and husband, Bryan of Aubrey, Texas, Angella McGee and husband, Chris of Plano, Texas, Sayber Paris and husband, Michael of Dallas, Texas, and Chaz Mitchell, also of Dallas, Texas; three great-grandchildren, Rhett McGee, Charlotte Paris, and Genevieve Paris; and a host of other loving family members and friends, who loved and knew her as Nanny. She was preceded in death by her husband, Alvin Mitchell; parents, Lewis and Mary Shipley; and brother, Irby Lewis Shipley. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, March 7, 2026 at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Chapel, 2525 Central Expressway North, Allen, Texas 75013. After the service, the recorded live stream will be available for viewing at the same link location. Following the service, a procession will make its way to Ridgeview Memorial Park for a committal service. The family will host a reception following the services at Fay's home church, Meadows Baptist Church, 3001 Los Rios Blvd, Plano, Texas 75074. The family will receive friends during a visitation on Friday evening from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
