Harry K. Benson
August 7, 1936— March 5, 2026
Pulaski, MS
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Harry King Benson. Harry, 89, of Pulaski, MS died peacefully on March 5, 2026 with his family by his side. A memorial service will take place at Ott and Lee Funeral Home in Forest, Mississippi on March 28, 2026, at 11 a.m.
Harry entered this world on August 7, 1936, in Farmhaven, Mississippi. He had an early love of learning that he channeled into a career in academia. Harry received his Master's degree in British History from the University of Southern Mississippi and then completed his PhD in American History at the University of Virginia. He began his professional life as a history professor and ended it as the President of Wabash Valley College in Mount Carmel, Illinois.
When not spending time with his family, reading, or keeping up with current events, Harry could be found enjoying his second lifelong love: country music. When Harry was young his brother taught him how to play the guitar and he continued playing throughout his life. This is how he will be remembered by those that love him - strumming along and singing a country or gospel song.
Harry was preceded in death by his father, Louis Vernon, mother Lillian, his brother Howard, and his sister Laura. He is survived by wife Patty Lou, daughter Delanor, sister Caroline Neoma, and numerous nieces and nephews.
