Harry G. Abel
June 15, 1950— March 8, 2026
Plymouth, MA
Harry G. Abel, 75, devoted husband, father, and lifelong problem solver, passed away at his home in Plymouth, Massachusetts on March 8, 2026. Born in Washington, DC in 1950 while his father worked for the Pentagon, Harry grew up in Bernardsville, New Jersey. He graduated from Bernards High School and earned a BS in Mechanical Engineering from Newark College of Engineering. Throughout his life, he approached every endeavor with curiosity, expertise, and quiet dedication to those around him.
Harry began his career as Maintenance Supervisor at Mountainside Hospital in Montclair, New Jersey, where his steady leadership kept the large facility’s critical boiler and HVAC systems operating reliably. He later spent nearly three years at American Cyanamid in Bound Brook, New Jersey, contributing to the development of one of the first computer-based central energy management systems for a major chemical plant. In 1979, he joined The Foxboro Company, later Schneider Electric, in Foxboro, Massachusetts, where he spent more than four decades. There he helped sell digital industrial control systems for commercial power plants around the world and later led a proposal team serving customers across the United States.
A dedicated family man, Harry brought kindness, wisdom, humor, and strong organizational skills to those he loved. He was deeply interested in the world around him, spending many hours hiking across New England, researching and publishing articles about unusual geological formations believed to have been created by Native Americans. He was also an avid collector of antique toys, a constant reader, and a loyal New England Patriots fan for 47 years. In retirement, he enjoyed playing bridge at local senior centers, where he formed many new friendships.
Harry was predeceased by his father, Harry W. Abel of Philadelphia, and his mother, Marie-Louise of Dommitzsch, Germany. He is survived by his beloved wife, Janice, of Plymouth, Massachusetts; his cherished daughter, Lea, of Mansfield, Massachusetts; his sister, Karen, and her husband, Todd, of Florida and Indiana; his niece, Courtney, of Indiana; his nephews, Kyle and his wife Christina of Massachusetts, and Chad and his wife Dorie of New York; his great-nieces, Kylie and Thea; his great-nephews, Cale, Auggie, and Calvin; and his mother- and father-in-law, Barbara and Bob, and sisters-in-law, Nancy and Debbie, all of Massachusetts.
