Harold W. “Hal” Mowery II, 67, of Lima, passed away on March 4, 2026, at his home. Born on November 14, 1958, in Bellefontaine, Ohio, he was the son of the late Rev. Harold Waldo Mowery and Mary Margaret Mowery Lusk Barlage. He was preceded in death by his partner, Steven Parlette, and his stepfather, Ned E. Lusk.
Hal graduated in 1977 from Wapakoneta High School, where he was an active member of the marching band known as “The Swingiest Band in Buckeye Land.” Music and creativity remained lifelong passions. He became a dedicated artist in the community, sharing his work at ArtSpace/Lima and touching many with his unique perspective and talent.
In addition to his art, Hal devoted years to caring for others, first in group homes and later in home health care. He found deep peace in nature, especially during visits to Hocking Hills, and took great pride in the flower gardens that surrounded his home. He is survived by his four sisters, Maria (Wesley) Barnhill of Dayton, Bonnie (Mike) Raypholtz of Baltimore, Amy (Chip) Noykos of Minster, and Melissa (Eric) Pfenning of Lakeview, along with nieces, nephews, many dear friends and neighbors, and his beloved pets.
