New Albany, IN
Harold Stanley Sinkhorn, 89, of Indiana, passed away on March 11, 2026. Born on August 16, 1936, in New Albany, Indiana, to Lucille (Lenz) Sinkhorn and Harold Sinkhorn, Harold embraced life with a spirit of mischief and adventure from an early age. He and his brother Orville would sneak into the movie theatre from the roof to save their money for candy and Cokes, and he enjoyed riding bikes with his uncle Paul and cousin Carol to play in the creek near the local sanitarium.
His love of movies, mischief, and travel led him to join the Army, where he served honorably in Korea for twenty-two years, retiring as Sergeant First Class. Though he disliked jumping out of airplanes, he cherished memories of refereeing for Bobby Knight, meeting Bob Hope, and the time Rita Marino complimented his blue eyes. A devoted fan of John Wayne and westerns, he also enjoyed bowling—once appearing on Bowling for Dollars—and was a passionate supporter of Indiana University football. He often declared after the team’s undefeated national championship season that he had seen everything and could go now.
Above all, Harold cherished his family. He raised his children as Army brats around the world and in Indiana. He was preceded in death by his mother, Lucille (Lenz) Sinkhorn; his father, Harold Sinkhorn; his stepfather, Andy Hamilton; his beloved brother, Orville Steproe; and his son, David.
He is survived by his wife of forty years, Fredonna (Rogers) Sinkhorn; his children, Steven, Teresa, Donald (Jilayne), Laura, Darren, Brandi (Ram), and Traci; his grandchildren, Serena, Sarah, Scotty, Autumn, Cheyanne, Dustin, Jilian, Jordon, Jilian, Cassidy, Samuel, Joseph, and Caitlin; and his great-grandchildren, Dylan, Harmony, Henry, Julian, Nava, and Devorah.
