Hamilton Stockton ObituaryPublished by Legacy on Mar. 17, 2026.Hamilton "Chip" Stockton III, 72, of Gainesville, Georgia, passed away at home on March 16, 2026.Chip was born on July 11, 1953, in East St. Louis, Illinois, to Hamilton Stockton Jr. and Dorothy Anne "Dotsie" Stockton (Strickland). He attended North Fulton High School in Atlanta and graduated from Georgia State University in 1977.He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Clifford Courtney "Court" Stockton. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Dorothy Anne "Anne" Stockton (Voegeli); his son, William Stockton (Howard Anderson) of Pendleton, SC; his daughter, Hannah Stockton Orth (Aaron), of Gainesville; and his four grandchildren: Hunter Anderson-Stockton, Rachel Anne Orth, Courtney Lynn Orth, and Parker William Orth.Chip was committed to the family business, H. Stockton - Atlanta, Inc., and to carrying forward his father's legacy. Over the years, he developed a sophisticated knowledge of men's clothing and a strong sense of responsibility to H. Stockton's employees and customers. He opened the Park Place store in 1980 and, alongside his brother, later assumed ownership of the company. Although he was happier behind the scenes than on the sales floor, he took pride in making customers feel welcome, often greeting them with a Coke and good conversation. He was always thinking ahead to the next season, the next advertising campaign, or the next store location. When not working, he enjoyed spending time at Lake Rabun and listening to music, especially the Allman Brothers Band and Tedeschi Trucks Band. After many years in Atlanta, Chip relocated to Gainesville, where he delighted in spending time with his grandchildren and dogs. He loved taking his grandchildren to church, going out to eat, riding around in the Kubota, and burning cardboard boxes.Per his request, no service will be held.
