H. Wayne Sprowles

H. Wayne Sprowles, 91, of Campbellsville, Kentucky, passed away peacefully on March 9, 2026. Born on December 22, 1934, in Taylor County, he was the son of the late Willie Sprowles and Katie Nelson Sprowles.

Wayne professed faith in Jesus Christ early in life and remained a longtime member of Campbellsville Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 69 years, Mary Helen Allen Sprowles, who passed in December 2024; their infant son, Alan Wayne Sprowles; his sister, Sadie Underwood Skaggs; and his brother, Willard Underwood.

He is survived by his daughters, Billie Diane Pyles Mardis of Campbellsville and Retha Sprowles Baumle of Louisville; grandsons Brandon Mardis (fiancée Jayne) and Kyle Mardis (fiancée Tracy); great-granddaughter Makayla Mardis; great-great-grandsons Axton New and Alec Mardis; brother Olyn Sprowles; sister Myrtle Grimes (Billy); and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and many dear friends.

Known affectionately as “Sporty,” Wayne worked 14 years for the American Tobacco Company in Louisville before retiring after 31 years with Fruit of the Loom in Campbellsville. He found joy in drag racing, buying and meticulously caring for cars, tending his yard, and helping others with their lawns and shrubs. Above all, he was a humble man who deeply loved his family and friends.
