December 24, 1941— March 10, 2026
Sandy, UT
H. Byron Marchant passed away on March 10, 2026, after a prolonged illness. Born at home on Christmas Eve, 1941, he was the 13th of 15 children born to Stephen and Beatrice Marchant. Growing up in a large family, overcoming heart surgeries in childhood and early adulthood, and playing tennis in his Liberty Park neighborhood helped shape his resilient character. He was a proud graduate of South High School and Utah Technical College.
Preceded in death by his parents, his wife Gladys, and eleven siblings, Byron is survived by three siblings, two children, five grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, his partner Yvonne Bargues Rollins, PhD, and her daughter Sophie. He lived life on his own terms, guided by his personal convictions, and showed genuine care and affection for his grandchildren, who held a special place in his heart.
Byron spent the last 25 years of his life with Yvonne in North Carolina. In his healthier years there, they enjoyed traveling together to explore the state’s natural beauty and Revolutionary War history sites. He loved listening to music, engaging in conversations about politics, history, and philosophy with Yvonne, Sophie, and friends, and watching sports. He had a special fondness for children and was remembered as a kind neighbor.
His ashes will be placed in Lake Hills Cemetery in Sandy, Utah, where many members of his family are buried.
