Guy Talmadge Cayton

Guy Talmadge Cayton

May 26, 1941 March 11, 2026

Auburn, IN

Guy Talmadge Cayton passed away on March 11, 2026, at his home in Auburn, Indiana. Born on May 26, 1941, in Beaufort County, North Carolina, to Willy Guy Cayton and Ethel May Smith, he was the fourth of six children. Preceded in death by his parents and sisters Wila May, Doris, and Nina, he is survived by his brothers Gerald and Don.

Guy shared 64 years of marriage with his wife, Mary Frances Walls, whom he married on December 8, 1961. Together they raised three sons: Tony (Kathy), Dean (Anita), and Marty (Joy). They were blessed with seven grandchildren—Steven (Emily), Erika (Shane), Jessica (Jason), Jaron (Sarah), Jedidiah (Courtney), Jenna, and Jocelyn (Harrison)—and 14 great-grandchildren.

He served four years in the United States Air Force from 1959 to 1963 and enjoyed a long career in electronics and communications that continued until his retirement in 2017. Guy loved music and led the family band, playing steel and rhythm guitar while singing alongside Mary. He cherished life on the farm, where he raised cattle and watched his grandchildren grow. An instrument-rated pilot, he owned a Cessna 182 and built his own flight line in the center of the farm. He also found deep joy in fishing on the beach, the Pamlico Sound with his brother-in-law Ray, and at the lake near his son’s home. A skilled woodworker, he crafted beautiful furniture for his family and often shared the lesson, “Measure twice, cut once.”

Saved as a young child, Guy rededicated his life to the Lord in 1984 after praying over a sick grandchild and offering his own life in exchange. From that day forward, he lived as a faithful testimony of trusting God in all things, applying the principles of Scripture to both his work and his family life. His life verse was Colossians 3:23: “Whatever you do, do your work heartily, as for the Lord rather than for men.” Even in his final days, he witnessed to those around him and sang hymns with his family when words failed him.

He will be deeply missed by his wife, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and all who knew him as a devoted husband, father, grandpa, and PeaPa.
