Gregory G. Belt of Morris, Illinois, passed away unexpectedly on March 11, 2026, at his home at the age of 64. Born on May 14, 1961, to Gerald and Delight Belt, Greg was raised in Morris and graduated from Morris High School in the Class of 1979. He attended Joliet Junior College and Governors State University, earning a Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice. Later in life, he returned to Governors State University to obtain a second Bachelor’s degree in Nursing.

Greg served with the Morris Police Department for more than 20 years, retiring in 2016. During his career, he worked in patrol and investigations and was assigned to an undercover drug unit. He later worked part-time for the Grundy County Sheriff’s Department and provided security at Morris Hospital for many years. Known for his steady presence, Greg was often the first officer called for backup when fellow officers faced difficult situations. He also served on the City of Morris Police Pension Board and volunteered with the Morris Fire Department.

He was preceded in death by his father, Gerald, in 2024, and his mother, Delight, in 2017. Greg is survived by his brother Scott (Cindy) Belt, his sister Joy (Craig) Belt-Roselieb, and many nieces and nephews, including Joshua Belt of Seattle, Washington; Tara (McTague) Larson of Lemont, Illinois; Jessica (McTague) Strube of Johnson City, Tennessee; Jenna (Finfrock) Belt of Sycamore, Illinois; and Monica (Frank) Belt of Iowa City, Iowa, along with great-nieces and great-nephews. His family will miss the colorful and educational stories he shared at holiday gatherings.
