Gregory Allen Coon, age 79, of Albert City, Iowa, formerly of Sac City, passed away suddenly on March 12, 2026, at his home.

Born on July 30, 1946, in Storm Lake, Iowa, to Marvin and Lorraine (Starken) Coon, Greg grew up in Sac City and graduated from Sac City High School with the class of 1965. He served in the United States Navy from 1965 to 1969, completing two tours in Vietnam. In October 1970, he married Vicki Brotherton, and together they had three children, Chad, Rebecca, and Tyler, before later divorcing.

Greg worked in construction for many years. In retirement, he found great pleasure in riding his motorcycle and, above all, in spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He will be remembered fondly by all who knew and loved him.

He is survived by his children, Chad (Jen) Coon of Cedar Falls, Iowa, Rebecca (Dan) Slater of Sac City, Iowa, and Tyler (Beth) Coon of Polk City, Iowa; grandchildren Caitlyn Scheffers, Megan (Sean) Owens, Connor Slater, Michael Slater, Tommy Coon, Lauren Coon, Carter Slater, Lincoln Coon, and Oaklynn Coon; great-grandchildren Hannah Scheffers, Shiloh Owens, and Lillian Owens; brother Larry (Deb) Coon of Lytton, Iowa; sister Pat Carlson of Storm Lake, Iowa; and many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Marvin Coon and Lorraine Albrecht; stepfather Loren Albrecht; and grandson Nicholas Coon.
