September 12, 1964— March 9, 2026
Franklin, TN
Grant Eugene Cole, beloved husband, father, and son, passed away unexpectedly on March 9, 2026. Born to Joan and Ernest Cole on September 12, 1964, in Cincinnati, Ohio, Grant was just three weeks old when his father, a decorated Ohio State Trooper, was killed in the line of duty. Raised by his mother and stepfather in Franklin, Tennessee, he responded to that early loss with a deep faith and an unwavering commitment to family.
He graduated from Franklin High School and earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Austin Peay State University, where he was elected Lieutenant Commander of the Kappa Mu Chapter of Sigma Nu Fraternity as a junior and Commander as a senior. His pursuit of knowledge later took him to Richmond College in London, England, for a summer of study, and years after marriage he completed a Master’s in International Affairs at Georgetown University.
Grant built a distinguished career as a technical writer, earning numerous awards for his ability to transform complex information into clear, concise prose. Yet his greatest joy came from the life he shared with Susan, whom he met while both worked at Opryland USA in the summer of 1981. Their long-distance courtship of letters and visits grew into a devoted 35-year marriage centered on faith and family.
Together they raised two daughters, Olivia Suzette Cole, born in 1996, and Amelia Grace Cole, born in 1999. Grant was their constant champion, faithfully attending every athletic event from their early ALC days through their standout Division I college careers. Known as the world’s calmest Goalie Dad, he offered only encouragement and proud smiles from the sidelines, regardless of the score. An avid Washington Nationals fan, he followed every detail of the team’s season with enthusiasm he readily shared. Above all, he cherished and celebrated Susan, frequently posting heartfelt tributes to her long service as a reading clerk in the U.S. House of Representatives.
Grant is survived by his mother Joan, his wife Susan, daughters Olivia and Amelia, Amelia’s fiancé Jake, and a wide circle of friends from work, baseball, church, and the many families whose lives he touched through his daughters’ sports. He was a steadfast presence of faith, love, and quiet strength, and the memory of his devoted heart will remain with all who knew him.
