Grace Phyllis Hufnagle

Grace Phyllis Hufnagle

July 11, 1935 March 8, 2026

Bloomington, MN

Grace Phyllis Ryan Hufnagle, beloved mother, wife, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on March 8, 2026, surrounded by her loving family.

Phyllis lived with a deep love of family, a profound gratitude for life’s blessings, and a steadfast faith in the benevolence of God. She spent her days serving others, always making room for one more at her table and one more perfect egg in the pan. She volunteered at her children’s schools, at Fairview Southdale Hospital, and through her dedicated work at St. Edward’s Church in Bloomington, which she and her husband Paul helped found. A longtime member of the Bloomington Affiliated Garden Club, she brought joy to many with her elegant flower arrangements.

When she was not in the Cities, Phyllis cherished countless joyful hours at Ryanland, the family cabin on Lower Cullen Lake in Nisswa. There she transitioned through every season of life—from newborn to Chief Fish Skinner, wife, mother, and finally matriarch—embracing each one fully over her 89 years. She delighted in sharing her love of the cabin and sunset cruises with her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and every friend or relative who stopped by. In quiet moments she would pause to admire the diamonds sparkling on the lake and reflect on the blessings of her life.

Phyllis was never happier than when she was helping someone in need. She leaves behind a legacy of kindness, gratitude, and service that reflected the faith and values that guided her. She is survived by her children Paul (Carol), Mary (Michael) Hoffman, Tim (Melissa), Anne (Warren) Mitchell, and Susan (Charlie) Colvin; grandchildren Dan (Alyson), Katie (Ben), Megan (Dave), Patrick, Kelly, Timothy, Kristina (Chris), Ellie, and Zachary; great-grandchildren Hudson, Connor, Mackenzie, and Baby Huffer; and many lifelong friends, nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Paul, her parents James and Grace Ryan, and her sisters, sisters-in-law, and brothers-in-law.
