June 30, 1942— March 12, 2026
New Albany, MS
Grace Eloise Bennett, affectionately known as Weesie to her family and friends, was born on June 30, 1942, in Lambert, Mississippi, to Charlie Bennett, Sr. and Clytie Smith Bennett. She passed away on March 12, 2026, in New Albany at the age of 83. A graduate of Clarksdale High School, Eloise worked as a seamstress, bringing meticulous care to her craft, and later served as an adult caregiver, offering compassion and empathy to those in her care.
Deeply devoted to her faith, Eloise was a longtime member of Hillcrest Baptist Church, where she sang in the choir, taught Sunday School, and mentored women and young people. She loved studying and memorizing Scripture, and her gentle, quiet spirit reflected the values she held dear. Her commitment to service extended through her work with mission organizations, the church clothes closet, and her involvement in the Tombigbee Pioneers, where she created corn shuck heritage craft dolls that preserved tradition while inspiring others. She was also a member of the Potter-Henry-Lowrey American Legion Auxiliary Unit 72.
Eloise is survived by her siblings, Wanda Gaddy, Mike Bennett, Charlie Bennett Jr., Lynn Wilkerson, Caren Hall, David Bennett, and Steve Bennett, along with many nieces, nephews, and cousins who will carry forward the lessons of love and faith she shared. In her final days, she was lovingly cared for by her niece Christy Hall Robertson, her sister Caren Hall, and her brothers David and Steve Bennett. She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister Pat Davidson.
