Gordon A. Nienhuis, 74, of South Haven, passed away surrounded by family on March 4, 2026. Born on January 25, 1952, in South Haven to Gordon “Whitey” and Norma (Childers) Nienhuis, he grew up in the community that would remain his lifelong home.
After graduating from Central Michigan University, Gordon returned to South Haven and married Susan Brown on July 14, 1979. Together they built a loving home and raised two children. He enjoyed a long career in purchasing before retiring in 2010. Gordon found his deepest joy in the company of family and friends, whether playing games, sharing stories, or simply being together. He also served as a registered Michigan basketball official for more than 35 years and remained a lifelong member of Hope Reformed Church.
He is survived by his wife, Susan Nienhuis; his mother, Norma Nienhuis; his children, Jennifer (Julio) Zavala and Bradford (Nichole) Nienhuis; four grandchildren, Noah and Drew Nienhuis, and Peyton and Mia Zavala; and his siblings, Keith Nienhuis, Susan (Dennis) Overhiser, and Nancy (Randy) VanWynen. In accordance with his wishes, Gordon was cremated and will be laid to rest at Lakeview Cemetery at a later date.
